On the cover of the new edition there is a geometric symbol behind the title in the blue Arizona sky. This symbol is there to acknowledge sacred geometry in the universe and the part it played in the writing of this suspenseful mystery. The novel has some mystical elements that, for some, confirms the existence of patterns in the universe. Patterns of human behavior mirrored in sacred shapes in the universe.
Today sacred geometry is often interpreted as having spiritual significance, where these shapes and ratios are believed to represent underlying cosmic order and harmony, connecting the physical world to the spiritual realm; it’s a concept that has been used throughout history in art, architecture, and spiritual practices, with notable examples like the pyramids of Egypt and the Gothic cathedrals of Europe incorporating sacred geometric principles.
Key points about sacred geometry:
- Core belief: Certain geometric shapes and mathematical ratios like the Golden Ratio hold inherent power and meaning, reflecting the structure of the universe.
- Natural patterns: Sacred geometry proponents observe geometric patterns in nature, like the arrangement of petals on a flower or the spiral of a seashell, as evidence of this universal order.
- Symbolic meaning: Different shapes are associated with specific spiritual concepts, like the triangle representing the trinity or the circle symbolizing wholeness.
- Historical application: Many ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Greeks, and Mayans, incorporated sacred geometry into their architecture and religious practices.
- Modern interpretations: Today, people interested in sacred geometry might use these shapes for meditation, spiritual development, and artistic expression, believing they can promote harmony and connection to a higher power.
Blue Moon Bench is one of those novels that unfolded in my mind, wrote itself, and I believe is indeed a part of sacred geometry – within the story. As I wrote, parts were a mystery even to me. But later in future chapters, suddenly there would be a perfect connection with that piece that didn’t make sense when written earlier. It felt right, but I didn’t know why.
When you read Blue Moon Bench see if you can find those subtle strands that run through the novel and pull everything together – much like the science of chaos – looking discordant and disconnected, but a computer formula can reveal the pattern through mathematical logic.
Find a square that seems to stand alone, but suddenly crosses over another square, which sits within a circle – much like the mandala on the cover.
